BAILEY’S STORY

Early 2013 I started looking for another dog to keep our dog, Brodie, company because he would just lay and mope around when we didn’t play with him. Almost ready to give up, I decided to visit one more shelter with my niece. I remember it being full…it was so sad! My niece pointed to a beautiful brownish/reddish and white boxer with a black face. Wow, what a beautiful face! We asked to interact with her and I remember vividly that she looked lost, almost like in shock. She had just been surrendered that morning! She was so sweet that I fell in love with her immediately and had to call my husband who was out of town. I sent him a picture and decided to adopt her on the spot. We named her Bailey! But because she was not yet sterilized, I had to pick her up the next day from an animal clinic where she had been fixed. Of course, we were a bit concerned about how Brodie would react and how they would get along, but it was like they had been friends forever and had just been reunited. They loved being together and played all day long. It was a true match! Bailey was gentle and lovable but also strong willed. Whatever she wanted, she would find a way to get. If she wanted to go for a car ride, all she had to do was get in my husband’s face, pace back and forth, and whine, knowing he would get up and take her for a ride. So many memories! Our favorite is when she would find a way to get right in the middle of my husband and me. It didn’t matter how because she would find a way. Being energetic, happy, and a goofball, she was always a healthy dog. 7 years later, she was diagnosed with leukemia. This was such devastating news that we had to make sure. The diagnosis from the second option was the same. We lost Bailey two months after her diagnosis. It was definitely one of our saddest days. Bailey is always on our mind. We miss her daily and love her so much!
